Fresh Eggs vs Store Eggs

Try and guess which is the store egg and which is the fresh egg. Ben had a hard time figuring it out. I only knew which was which because I grew up with chickens.

The egg on the right is the store egg and the one on the left is the fresh egg. It's easy to tell that the fresh one has way more color and for anyone who has grown up with fresh eggs, taste too!

Why do you think the color is different with the store egg?

Hmmmm... I've never had fresh eggs, bet they make great omelets! I enjoy cooking eggs with some sausage, chicken if there's some cooked bits lying around, basil, a good bit of garlic powder, salt, and some green peppers! Yum yum!

I give up. Why is the fresh egg more orange than the store bought egg? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hello friend of Prisca,

That is the mystery! We don’t know why! Maybe as the egg get’s older it looses color or it could be from added who knows what from the farm... hmmmmm

I've just in the last year have been raising rhode island red chickens and I think the reason they are more colorful is because they are not sitting in the back of the store for 3 mths before they're sold. Eggs have a very long shelf life. People don't realize how old their eggs are when they get them at the store.
